Brought to you by the Friends of the North Coast's Natural History Museum
The Friends of the North Coast's Natural History Museum is a devoted group of volunteers and community members who have come together to fundraise, organize and develop plans to keep the museum open.

Although we recently received word that HSU did not accept our proposal we are not giving up! We have already raised over $74,000 in pledges -- a considerable amount considering the short time line and we plan to raise more!

If you have been thinking about pledging then pledge now! As we get word out about our continued efforts and continue to communicate this to HSU we want them to see just how dedicated this community is to the museum.

Email Question: Are you the ARCATA Natural History Museum Now?

We just got an email from a new reader to the blog which made me happy for two reasons:

1. Somebody can actually find the blog!

2. And they read it!

We're building buzz slowly but surely and we're happy to hear from any and all readers with their suggestions.

This particular question focused on the "change of name" to the museum. Are we the "Arcata Natural History Museum" now? Or is the museum still the "Humboldt State Natural History Museum."

One of the main concerns is that naming the museum something like the "Arcata Natural History Museum" does not reflect how important the museum is all over the county and region.

I wanted to take a few moments to address this issue specifically.

First, the name of the museum has not been changed.

Second, it's a good point, the name should consider ALL regions and communities in it's name. (If we have my way the museum might be called something like The North Coast Humboldt Spongebob Community Thank you to all Donors and Supporters for Helping us to Save This Community Resource Natural History Museum).

This website does not reflect a change in the name. As I looked over what was posted I could see how it seemed that way so I have since made some changes to the content of this blog and the other sites.

To raise awareness of what is going on we have started these sites to Save Arcata's Natural History Museum. "Save Arcata's Natural History Museum" reflects what we're trying to do but is NOT the new name of the museum.

We are trying to maintain a certain independence of Humboldt State University in our efforts and are reflecting that decision in the way that we label and market our efforts at this time. In truth, until we finish and secure word from HSU that our proposal has been successful we are simply a group of concerned citizens trying our best to save the museum.

We will be discussing the future of the museum, name changes, fundraising and all other such issues at the meeting on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. I encourage everyone to come. If you have questions or concerns that you want to pass along please do not hesitate to contact us savearcatanhm@gmail.com and I will take them to the board on Wednesday.

Thank you for your continued support.
